Here's some excerpts from his post that maybe do a better job: I'm not sure if I'm doing a good job of explaining it but check out that thread I linked. Changing to IRs or cab models makes it sound more processed or like a studio recording - fine for actual recording and possibly FOH but not accurate if you want your FRFR to sound like an actual cab. Standing next to my DXR10, it sounds as if I were standing next to my 1960A 4x12. I was really skeptical of this when I was reading about it but after reading so many positive reviews I tried it out through my FRFR and I love it. I split my path where the cabs would go and use two different EQ blocks with different OTB settings. Very high gain Marshall-y, somewhere between the classic rock and hair metal territory.
So really the main rhythm/crunch channel is what I can't seem to get right.Įdit. The clean sounds fine through the dxr and my band mates loved it, said not to change a thing on this one.

They were all lacking a bit of "bite" and full saturated crunch sound.Ĭlean tone I think I've got fender twin or deluxe amp into ownhammer fender IR with a heavy chorus fx on it. Never really found one that did it for me. I think this one should be somewhat useable.įor rhythm/overdrive/crunch I tried out the jcm800 into ownhammer cabs, then the default amp block, then the dual rectifier amp block, then the Marshall plexi amp block. Very liquid smooth lead tone and sustain for days. Using a GT75 Marshall cab IR from ownhammer.

I have a lead patch with jcm800 model with volume boost and OD in front, and delay after the cab. They knew I changed my settings around but they didn't realized I removed my IRs and cab models and just was running OTB settings. I use a DXR10 with OTB settings and my band commented that it sounded as good as my 5150 head through my 1960A cab used to sound. Great for recording and possibly to FOH depending on your settings but OTB EQ settings basically remove any mic/room sound coloring and leave you with your FRFR sounding like a cab alone. This is because cab models and IRs are literally the transformation of your tone through a colored guitar cab and a colored mic in a room.
If you're sending cab models or IRs through to an FRFR like your DXR12, it will not really sound like an amp/cab in a room, it will sound like a miked cab in a studio environment with room reverb. What cab models or IRs are you using? I've found that cab models and IRs are best for recording while OTB EQ settings are WAY better for live use.
